Queso Reunion Concert

Queso started out using the name Cheese.  In 1998, their self-titled debut album “Cheese” was released. The follow-up album "Parusa" was released in 2003. And they changed their name to Queso before releasing their self-titled 3rd album in 2006. Queso are well known with their creative style of music and "don't give a fuck" attitude.

After year long hiatus, Queso announced their reunion concert. Then their fan base called "daga" came out screaming after hearing the news. And I'm one of them.

Finally, the long wait is over: November 29, 2012. Amoranto Theater in Quezon City.

Powerspoonz, Greyhoundz, Kamikazee and Radio Active Sago Project opened the show for Queso.

Then, the long awaited moment had arrived.

The Queso Reunion Concert was fucking awesome! Queso is back and better than ever!

The Bobo Network

Most people live their life on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Posting what's on their mind, what's happening, photos and videos. Facebook and Twitter, for better or worse, is like being at a big party with all your friends, family, acquaintances and co-workers.

There are lots of fun, interesting people you're happy to talk to when they stroll up. Then there are other people, the ones who make you cringe when you see them coming. Yung mga tipong nakaka-bobo. This blog is about them.

Sure, Facebook and Twitter can be a great tool for keeping up with folks who are important to you. Pero may ilan lang talaga na mga nakaka-bobo. Check this out yo!

Lahat ng gagawin, kakainin, pupuntahan at susuotin ipo-post, kulang na lang pati ang pag-tae i-post. Useless information. By the way, sharing too much information can put your personal safety at risk. On Twitter, some of it are acceptable since that's the reason why we use that network anyway, but on Facebook, oh please!

Think before you click. That's it!

Happy Birthday Francis Magalona

Francis Durango Magalona or as he is also known FrancisM, Master Rapper, and The Man From Manila is credited as being the first Filipino rapper in the Philippines to successfully crossover to the mainstream. He is also popularly known as the "King of Pinoy Rap" and is one of the most idolized, celebrated and influential rappers within the genre.

He's my hero and this is my tribute.

FM was the eight of nine children of late Philippine movie screen legends Pancho Magalona and Tita Duran. Grandson of the late Senator Enrique Magalona.

Starting out as a breakdancer in the early 1980s, he followed in his parents footsteps and ventured out into acting, appearing in several Filipino movies; he branched out to emceeing and released the groundbreaking album Yo! in 1990 garnering the nationalistic hit Mga Kababayan (My Countrymen), making Yo! the first commercially released Pinoy rap album in the Philippines. While rapping politically conscious and thought-provoking rhymes in both English and Tagalog, the album was a total success and helped instantly catapult Filipino hip hop from underground to mainstream status and also marked the birth of Makabayang or Nationalistic rap in Filipino hip hop.

In 1992, Francis Magalona released Rap Is FrancisM (1992). With tracks addressing the various cultural and social problems that plagued his country such as drug addiction in "Mga Praning" (Paranoids), political instability in "Halalan" (Elections) as well as the detrimental effects of a colonial mentality in "Tayo'y Mga Pinoy" (We Are Filipinos), the record's complexity and conscious message quickly earned it its classic status and became the standard by which future albums of the genre were to be compared. This album helped tag FM as one of the most politically conscious voices of his generation.

The release of his third album, Meron akong ano! (I Got Something!) in 1993 marked the beginning of FM's experimentation with Pinoy rock. He introduced the merging of Pinoy Rock and Rap to the Filipino music audience becoming an exceptional artist in both genres of music.

Freeman was released the following year, 1995, and firmly established FM's legitimacy in the Pinoy rock scene. Tracks like "Three Stars & A Sun", "Kabataan Para Sa Kinabukasan", "Suckin' on Helium/Kaleidoscope World" would become defining touch-points in FM's body of work. "Kaleidoscope World" went on to win 1996 Awit Award for Best Produced Record of the Year, and the 1996 NU 107 Rock Award for Song of the Year.

FM's next album,Happy Battle, was released in 1996. In this album, he collaborated with Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan with side project band Planet Garapata who would later become Sandwich, and pioneer Filipino punk band Betrayed. In keeping with the nationalistic theme in his work, 1-800-Ninety-Six was written in celebration of the centennial of the Philippine revolution of 1896. "Rainy" won Best Folk song, and the album itself would became the only album to win Best Rock and Best Rap Album at the Katha Awards. When FM was diagnosed with Leukemia, he and his wife Pia would use the album name "Happy Battle" as a reference to his fight against cancer.

The 1998 album The Oddventures of Mr. Cool is a full hip hop album and feature the song "Whole Lotta Lovin'", whose music is a sample of the Eraserheads song "Alapaap". Later albums would include Interscholastic (1999) which featured adaptations of various artists' songs; and Freeman 2 (2001), a heavy-metal rap album which would echo many of the themes that had made the first Freeman album so popular.

FM's contributions to the genre have been featured in several international hip hop publications including the All Music Guide to Hip-Hop: The Definitive Guide to Rap and Hip-Hop (2003) published by Backbeat Books; as well as the May 2004 issue of the U.S. based publication The Source. FrancisM was also given the Pioneer Hall of Fame Award by Empire Entertainment at the 1st Annual Philippine Hip-Hop Music Awards in 2005.

In 2002, with the assistance of then FUBU Philippines' management employees Carlo Maniquiz and Nick Tuason, Magalona launched a compilation album of the same name. Later that year, Francis Magalona's greatest hits album, The Best of FrancisM was released.

He was also the only arist that was accepted by both Pinoy rap and rock fans.

Over the years FrancisM has also branched out to numerous hosting responsibilities; and has been part of several television shows including the longest running daytime television show in the Philippines Eat Bulaga!, as well as being a VJ for MTV Asia. FM is MTV Asia's first Filipino VJ along with Regine Tolentino and Donita Rose. He worked with MTV from 1997 up to 2000. He was also chosen by Fremantle Media, owners of American Idol as one of the judges of in the first Philippine Idol season that aired on ABC (now TV5) alongside Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and Ms. Pilita Corrales, Asia's Queen of songs. Aside from television, he also hosted live events and presentations.

On March 6, 2009, the master rapper went home to his master.

FM was not just the "King of Pinoy Rap" but also "The Father of Pinoy Hip Hop".FM's contributions to the genre have been featured in several international hip hop publications including the All Music Guide to Hip-Hop: The Definitive Guide to Rap and Hip-Hop (2003) published by Backbeat Books; as well as the May 2004 issue of the U.S.-based publication The Source. He was also given the Pioneer Hall of Fame Award by Empire Entertainment at the 1st Annual Philippine Hip-Hop Music Awards in 2005.

FM was the recipient of the MTV Pilipinas Video Music Awards Generations Award in 2006 "in recognition of his career that has spanned decades and broken boundaries, and for his music which continues to inspire generations of artists and music fans both here and abroad." He was the second person so honored, the first having been singer Gary Valenciano at the 2005 rites.

On March 18, 2009, the Philippine Government - through the efforts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts -- recognized FM with by awarding him a posthumous Presidential Medal of Merit. The award's citation noted that it had been given “for his musical and artistic brilliance, his deep faith in the Filipino and his sense of national pride that continue to inspire us.”

FrancisM's legacy lives on.

Hello/Superyor Istilo For Life

Hello, allow me to introduce myself, my name is Edward, it's so nice to meet you. It's been a long time, I'm sorry I've been away so long, I never meant to leave you.

This is my first blog after six months. I'm back!

Today marks Superyor Istilo Clique's 10th year anniversary. We were a gang of rebels who broke the rules, acted and spoke as we pleased, no matter how provocative and/or insulting. Actually we are not similar to a fraternity or a gang, this is an underground society of brotherhood. We didn't hurt each other to pledge our loyalty, just true friendship and love for a brother.

Superyor Istilo was founded on October 3, 2002 in Calauag, Quezon by the four "SUPERYOR" founding members; McNeil, Pol, Edward and Erwin. The Clique was decided to be formed for brotherhood, friendship, fun, and to overcome the devil inside us.  After some changes from our antics juvenile delinquent style to be a matured person, many are called but few are chosen to be one of us.

We argue with each other a lot, we fought with each other a lot, we hated each other a lot and we love each other a lot, coz that's all in the family. Now, we don't see each other very often because all of us are busy with personal reasons. Some of us are busy coz of their own career and some of us are busy coz their own family. But we will always be friends, brothers, family.

This is my tribute to my family, Superyor Istilo Clique.

I'm Superyor Istilo for life.

SHOUT OUTS:
McNeil Sasot, Pol Lucido, Erwin Lee, Leonard Dayao, Carlo Pelagio, Carlos Madlangawa Jr., Christian Duero, Ehvert Estrella and to everyone that they know they deserve it. Fuck you to everyone that deserve it too.

The Used Experience

I've been a fan of The Used since 2004. My buddy lent me The Used sophomore album "In Love and Death" and I immediately like what I heard. That's the first time I ever listened The Used and ever since I've been listening to their music. Since "In Love and Death" was the 2nd album, I listened to the 1st album as well. Since then, I'm always excited to listen to their new materials. What I love about them is putting all of you into your music. All of that emotion about life. Your anger, your background, your emotion. your rage, your stories. People can relate on their songs. Learning that The Used will be in Manila for the Smash Project Fest gave me goosebumps and overexcitement.

Watching The Used live was one of the best night of my life. It was fuckin' awesome! They opened the show by singing "Take It Away" followed by "The Bird and the Worm" and "Listening." After singing their first three songs, Bert called his Malaysian friend to help him out singing "I Caught Fire." Bert then promoted their forthcoming album "Vulnerable" and performed it's first single "I Come Alive." Bert then took some break talking to the fans before singing "Taste of Ink" where the fans sing along "As long as you're alive and care, I promise I will take you there" with an outstanding ovation. After that song, they immediately played "All That I've Got" and Bert had fun with the fans before finishing the song (where you can see on the video below). Bert asked the fans to request a song for them to sing. The fans requested the classic hit from their debut album which is "Blue and Yellow" and the band immediately played it followed by "Paralyzed."

After The Used granted the fans request, it's time for Bert's request to the fans, MOSH PIT! Bert asked to make a big circle and the fans begin to dance with the song "The Best of Me" and "Pretty Handsome Awkward" as a curtain call. The Used thanked the fans and left the stage. People were unsatisfied including me coz I wanna see them perform "A Box Full of Sharp Objects" which is my most favoriteof all live performances of The Used. People started chanting "WE WANT MORE" so The Used went back to the stage and brought Chris Carraba of Dashboard Confessional with them. I got goosebumps when they played the intro of Nirvana's song "Smells Like Teen Spirit". They used it as an intro to their encore which is "A Box Full of Sharp Objects" and I was like FUCK YEAH! Chris Carraba assisted Bert on singing the song and it's fuckin' awesome!

I was fuckin' jealous to the people who were able join the mosh pit. I swear to God I was fuckin' jealous. The Used promised to be back so I'll join the mosh pit next time.

2012, It's My Time!

"Excitement, joy and hard work are in store for the Tiger in 2012! Strees-related issues will no longer concern you, and it's all because of your changed attitude. You will focus on all aspects of your life, seeking to strike balance in your finances, love life, career, and home. Money-wise, things will stabilize as you pay off most of your debts with relief. In terms of love, the opposite sex will not be able to overlook your raw appeal, and you will meet someone special and move quickly in that relationship within a matter of months, most likely in April and May. February, March and April will be significant for Tigers and you can add to your luck by wearing green and yellow. The east and northeast directions will also bring you luck."

It's my time, baby! Excitement, joy and hard work are in store for the Tiger in 2012! Ha ha! The forecast really fits me. First, regarding stress-related issues, I'm going to quit my job that stresses me out in a lot of way. I'm not gonna bring it up here but I'm glad I can finally quit my job. And yes, I'm seeking balance when it comes to my finances, love life, career and home. I don't wanna be so serious, I just wanna have a good time. About money-wise, for me, I think the debt I need to most pay off is my family. That's why I'm planning to save more money this year so I can treat them. But first, I need to find a new job. Ha ha! For the mean time I don't wanna talk about love but I'm happy right now. I believe that love can wait. I'm just happy right now. Anyway, lucky for me I have green and yellow that is something I can wear. Ha ha! I believe that 2012 is my time. It's my time!

Happy 2012 everyone! :)
